Photographer: Bruce Davidson: Gangs of Brooklyn

Bruce Davidson has been taking for a long long long time. Best known for his photographs of the climatic Civil Rights Movement he has an uncanny ability to capture the essence of life in his subjects.
"If I am looking for a story at all, it is in my relationship to the subject - the story that tells me, rather than that I tell."
In 1959 Davidson was connected by a social worker to a rebellious Brooklyn Gang by the name of The Jokers.
It was his first photographic project and he became a daily observer of this group as they did everything they weren't supposed to be doing. In a time that seems pretty tame by today's standards, his photos capture the free spirited energy encapsulated in these teens.

(oh yeah, and that style!)
