Decimating A Classic

Listen closely now. . .hear that? It's the sound of thousands of collective sighs.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark publisher Harper-Collins has decided to replace the illustrations?!! No offense to Brett Helquist who's work is replacing Gammell's but seriously, this is an atrocity. For many of us this celebrated collection of American Folklore retold by Alan Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell was an important source of creepy inspiration. It was not the stories that scared you but the hauntingly beautiful illustrations, that left you filled with dread. Below are some of the original + new illustrations.
