(Creepin' on Dan Deacon)
Darcy posting about those awesome free movies awhile back reminded me about SUMMER 2012: The Summer of Epic Free Concerts. To be clear this is a name I invented, not an event. I know about this because I am living the broke dream, as I'm sure everyone is. The important thing is that we can still entertain ourselves for FREE because everyone is in the same boat (except not literally, I only know like one person with a boat).
The time for free things is now! Hudson River Park hosts the River Rocks series, which has awesome free shows on the grassy Pier 40 next to the Intrepid. John Maus and Dan Deacon performed on July 12th (creepy picture above) and next up are Soft Pack, Oberhofer, Grimes, and DIIV. For a full list click here, and note that all the concerts open up at 6 p.m.
Here are some more awesome free shows throughout the city this summer.
Wednesday 7/18 - McCarren Park Summer Screen Series
Free Screening of Raising Arizona with performances by Talk Normal, Tim Harrington and Dustin Wong
Computer Magic DJ Set at The Ace Hotel
House of Vans Doors at 8 pm
Dum Dum Girls, Widowspeak, Fingers on the Pulse (DJ set)
Dj Set at the Ace Hotel
I'm going to interrupt this posting for a second because the humans in Slowdance are pretty wonderful and I think everyone should listen to their new single, "Boyfriend" because its catchy and they play a mean live show. See them now before they start selling out arenas.
