Right here, Right Now

Man, do you guys remember that song?  Jesus Jones.
I was obsessed.  I was in 3rd grade.  I have a vivid memory of rocking out hard in the car at the gas station to this song.  It was definitely one of my favorites, and a theme song to my 3rd grade summer.

This post, has nothing to do with that song, and is more a just kinda what's up to my readers.
What's happening with me, right here-right now.  JJ style.
I realize I don't get to get personal on here as much as I should, or you might want me too, so I am gonna try to rectify that.  First, by starting out small with a weekly outfit post, then hopefully I will get it together and do it daily, or like 3 times a week.  We'll see.  Lord knows somedays I just don't get dressed.

So, that will start as soon as I get a tripod and a new memory card.  I think I just lost the one I bought, AGAIN.
Big shouts to Alex who has blessed us with her Cosby grace on the blog.  Would love to see some more Alex action on here.  She lives and creates in a world that I don't exist in, and therefore sees the things happening on the interwebs WAY more than, me---so we definitely enjoy seeing her pop up on here.

This past year has been one of the truly most amazing year's of my life.
The store is FINALLY settling down.  Those of you who aren't aware, Alex and I opened our first store in September of 2008, 2 weeks before the huge economic collapse.
I don't think we had even had our opening party yet.
Needless to say, that was real scary.
But we pulled through because we had an original idea loads of people could get behind.

Back in those days we were located in a tiny shop that we completely renovated by ourselves (just Alex and I) in 2 or 3 weeks where we stayed for almost 2 years before relocating to our beautiful Franklin St location.
In between we had a short stint at the Limelight Marketplace in Chelsea, when we thought that the original concept was really unique (who knows what happened) gained some incredible customers and recognition  then headed to the Lower East Side where we most recently opened this winter.

I remind you of all of this, because for 3 1/2 years the store has been in such transition.  We have either been opening a new store or re-locating an old one every year since we opened.  This is an exciting time for us because we are settled and happy with our locations and now have the time to really focus on the brand as a curated environment and lifestyle as opposed to just a jewelry or vintage shop.  We now have the space and support to grow into so much more.
We are constantly seeking out new designers and bringing classic ones in to make the shopping experience much more than trend based.  Of course, we only hop on board with the trends we like anyway.
Super picky over here.

New projects and changes include:
-Seasonal Lookbooks
expect to see the first one for Spring & Summer due out in March---stay tuned for the release party!
-Expanded Men's Collection
with new (and) exceptional menswear buyer, Nick Spain, expect to see not only more clothing lines (like Burkman Brothers) but new jewelry and accessories hitting the Old Hollywood Must Have list.
-Summer Trunkshow Garden Parties
we've gotten our backyard sorted out in Brooklyn so stay tuned for a heap of summer parties starting in April.
-Tons of new clothing lines you are gonna WANT
Hatch
One Teaspoon
Dear Creatures
Lifetime (men & women)
Yumi (NOT Yumi Kim!)
and so much more!

The Cosby Sweater Project

A genius idea and definitely my new favorite tumblr. The Cosby Sweater Project has the sweater from a given episode along with a draw interpretation of the sweater pattern and a brief synopsis of the episode.

Season 3, Episode 14: “Rudy Spends the Night” Cliff sends Rudy to spend the night with Grandma and Grandpa Huxtable so he can organize the “Huxtable Men’s Club” to cheer up Theo after a girl he likes doesn’t call. He didn’t have to go through all the trouble, though, because his sweater is enough to cheer up anybody!

Season 3, Episode 11: “War Stories” Cliff is going to play pinochle with his father and his war buddies and he is dressed to win!

Spring Wishlist : Clip on Shades

Yes, a pair of Tom Ford Pavlo clip on shades would be amazing but with a price tag of $420.00 I'm out of luck there. Check out this gnarly alternative from Spitfire without the major overhang. For $39.00 you get two pairs of glasses and endless combinations to create with your already existing glasses. Fits great on gals + guys alike, pick up your pair while they last!

Morse Code Necklaces in NY Mag

Ladies and Gents! Great news for Friday.
Coatt is featured in NY Mag's Best Bet for their classic little morse code necklace. You can order your own at our online store or come in and check them out for yourself. These delicate necklaces are perfect for layering or just if you want something beautiful without being too loud. It's all about minimalism sometimes, guys. Pick from "Dandy," "Love Me Do," or for the one woman who will always be there for you, "Mom." A perfect gift for yourself or others. Read the full article here and check out our selection in the store. A happy Friday to all!

Friday Fix: Sinead O'Connor: Nothing Compares

Yeah yeah, this songs a slow one and a doozy at that. But c'mon. Can you really sit there and tell me that when this video came out, you didn't slick your hair back and sing into the mirror pretending you were Sinead and lovesick. Big deal I was only 5 at the time, I meant and felt every word of it! So maybe I was dramatic.

PS. Here's Sinead at the 1989 Grammys. Girlfriend looks gooooood. If I don't see this look copied everywhere in the hood this summer, I'm gonna be disappointed!

Market Week - Pt. 2

Alright so onto Day 2 of the Fall/Winter shows! Tiff and I sped shopped/bought through the entire Javits Center in 7 hours. At this point, we've got these shows down to a science. I'm not exaggerating when I say we covered at least 4 football fields worth of vendors in 1 day on only 1 cup of coffee each! Yay team OH.

Ok, so onto the good stuff. We restocked some old favorites - remember this horse print from spring. Yeah, it's back, this time in a dress AND blouse! You spoke, we listened, you're welcome.

This coat from Rails is a personal favorite of mine from Day 2. If only they made varsity jackets this cool when you were still in high school. Wait, you've been out of high school almost 10 years now. Who cares, lets pretend it's still 2002, minus the braces!

And that coat with these cut offs by the most bad ass new line we picked up called One Teaspoon....talk about owning it.

Then we picked up these awesome Brown Leather/Navy Canvas oxfords. If you've ever met Tiff, you know she's already lusting over these bad boys, hard.

And I after these. While the Tiff Oxford won't arrive until Fall, these happy feet sandals are coming this spring. Which by the way, is less than 1 month away. Though you could have fooled me with the weather yesterday!

Cheetah can do do wrong in our eyes. I mean, have you met us?!

This red silk shirt doesn't actually have a collar, but it does have a black lace collar detailed into it instead. Why yes, don't mind if we do.

Did you hear that I said Spring is only a month away? These high waisted yellow polka dot shorts (look closely, it's true) are coming just in time. Seriously, I can't say no to cheetah and polka dots. Or stripes for that matter, but I'm not even going there.

This Here Magnet On My Fridge Says It All!

And it makes me laugh every time I open it.

Safety First

Before you go out on your next all-night binge drinking tour, stop by the store and pick up some of our awesome keychains. Created by Madison Bay and modeled after antique replicas, the compass and whistle keychains will make sure you get your intoxicated ass home and provide you with loud noise in case some sketchy characters cross your path. Plus, they make you look a hell of a lot cooler than a can of pepper spray and Google Maps ever could.

Market Week - Pt. 1

Let the mayhem of buying for Fall/Winter 2012 begin! First stop, Capsule. Here's Lucas, DJ extraordinaire of all shows Capsule + Tiff, owner of all cool things you want! We picked up some great new stuff here (I'm looking at you Lifetime and Naked & Famous).

Next stop, Designers & Agents. Look at that view.

We picked up these classic hats from Eugenia Kim...

...and these dreamy leather purses from Moss Mills.

We picked up lots of other goodies for the stores we are really excited to share with you, but on those later!

And what better way to end the first day of market week than with a complimentary beverage or two!

Insects and Flowers

This morning I went down to the basement to grab some bags and I stumbled across this guy! What a majestic creature.

Roost Feather Orb Ornament $30 (left)

I've always been fascinated by insects, especially beetles, butterflies and dragonflies. When I was a toddler my father told me never to kill spiders we found in the house because they were good luck. My mother extended this to pretty much all insects by the time I was six, probably because she felt intense guilt if she squashed anything. She also frequently dressed me up as a bee on Halloween and sang the "Maya the Bee" theme song to me.
This spring I think all my accessories are going to be insect and flower themed, in honor of my strange and lovely parents. There's nothing I like more than some water beetles and cherry blossoms. Kaoru's new collection comes to mind, as does Old Hollywood's badass bugsly ring.

Kaoru Flower Dangles $124
Two's Company Poison Jar $14

Walk In The Park

Someone is toying with my emotions with this weather. Is it spring? Is it summer in northern Canada? Do I even know what Canadian weather is like?
No matter.
Here's what I did this Saturday (with photos!) Spring this year is going to be all about me breaking into the Central Park Zoo to steal a baby penguin.

Peter Pan Collar Necklaces

Andrea Bocchio has had yet
another fantastic idea.  you know how adorable all things with a peter pan collar are?  And how if you could only find more things with peter pan collars you would buy them up in a second?  well what about a peter pan collar you can wear with anything you want?  Sounds ideal.
Loads of different styles in store now.
