Pyrite Fascination

I have been seeing a lot of pyrite being used in new jewelry designs around the shop lately and it got me thinking- "What exactly is Pyrite?"  Well, it is an iron sulfide mineral with a metallic luster.  It has actually been used for a lot of practical things.  In the 16th and 17th century it was used to create ignition for firearms; it made the spark.  In the 19th century it was used to pick up radio signals in receivers, and currently it is a key element in some solar panels.  Pyrite is also what is used to create marcasite which is a stone that was very popular in the Victorian era.  Check out some of these new design.
